Course Improvement Projects
It has been a very productive spring for on course improvements. Without a doubt progress is being made on many fronts at Granite Pointe this spring!
The grounds crew and contracted staff have been busy on numerous projects – in case you’re not keeping track… we are!
Here they are:
- #18 cart path. Area filled and sodded to stabilize newly paved path.
- #4 open ditch. Removal of ditch and improved drainage and playability of left side.
- Driving Range. Installation of irrigation into the driving range.
- Front Entrance. Phase 1 – Flower bed upgrades inside gate. Phase 2 – Upgrades to front boulevard, improved signage and fencing.
- Tree Transplanting. A number of trees were relocated as per our overall landscape plan.
- #5 green site. Right side of green supported and filled to improve playability, installation of a new bunker and cart turnaround at back of green.

Special Project Assessment
In the coming days we will be invoicing all members $100 (nine hole members $50) for your contribution to the improvement project on hole #5. The largest phase of the project is nearly complete and we will be moving into the final phase with shaping and the installation of bunker to start soon.
All assessments will be charged to member accounts (whether you use yours or not). If we have your credit card on file this process will be seamless for you, we will automatically charge your card the appropriate amount and the end of the month. If we do not have a credit card on file, please remit payment to the Golf Shop before June 30th.

Course Cultural Practices
As you are aware, weather patterns this past fall and winter where out of the norm. With that came conditioning complications for the course. Ice damage to greens and fairways and less visible sprinkler head and irrigation line damage, left the Rock with its share of “bruises” this spring.
Here’s a rundown of what our course crew has been working on to nurse the turf back to health.
Greens:
Late March –Fertilizer application to all greens to stimulate some early growth.
Late April – Aeration of greens 9, 10, 12, 13 and putting green, top-dress, fertilize and over-seed with penncross creeping bent grass. (Aeration of these greens was delayed due to cold temperatures during early April)
Early May – Fertilizer application to all greens.
Early May – Vertical mowed all putting greens to promote new and lateral growth.
Mid May – Vertical mowed all putting greens.
Late May – Aeration of all greens, top-dress, fertilize. Over-seed weak areas.
Tees:
Early May – Aeration of tees.
Mid May – Herbicide application to tees to deter weed encroachment in weaker areas.
Mid May – Fertilizer application to all tees.
Mid May – Fertilizer application to all tees.
Fairways:
Mid May – Aerated and over-seed of fairways 2, 5, 8 with sports field blend of seed.
Late May – Over-seed of fairways 2, 5, 6, 8, 14 with fairway blend seed.
All in all, it’s a long list of practices designed to get the course as playable as possible. Our course crew has been working hard to improve early season conditions with more work to continue. We’ll keep you posted with our progress.
